Update on Myself

First off, I can not no longer speak or use my legs, and that makes me frustrated because I used to help my nieces and nephews with their homework or read a book to my youngest nephew Owen, and I miss doing that. My new wheelchair came about a month ago, but it doesn't fit into my church's elevator, and I miss going to church. I have been going to Pilgrim Faith United Church of Christ since I was 4 and I'm going to be 49 in August. I used to be able to volunteer for everything---or what I was good at; but since I have ALS/Lou Gehrig's Disease, I had to drop everything except being on the Mission board, where we communicate via e-mails. Thank goodness for the Internet. I'm hoping for good weather on May 31st, as we have once a month services outside through out the Summer. my brother Jim is seeing if there is a handicapped accessable movie theater so that I can see the new Star Trek movie. I told him to see if the theater has an electrical outlet so that I can plug in my VPAP machine. It's a machine that forces air, not oxygen, into my lungs as I'm down to about 20% lung capacity, meaning that my lungs are not doing well. ALS/Lou Gehrig's Disease tackles the respitory system. We recieved an invitation to go to a Cubs game in July, and my brother, Jim and sister Jill are White Sox fans, while my mom, Barbara, are Cubs fans. Jill and Jim are going because thet care about me. I hope that there is an electrical outlet at Wrigley Field for my VPAP machine.

I'm also on hospice care now. Kim is my nurse, Irena is my nurse's aide, Rich is my Social Worker, Randi-a female-is my massuse, Audra is my art therapist and Gabreil is my chaplain. I have been liking them all and Irena came on Tuesdays for the past 3 weeks at 7:45 so that I could go to Bible study at Grace Community Christian Reformed Church, which is also in Oak Lawn. I been going to what they call Coffee Break Bible Study for 13 years now. I had mom call Kim to call Irena that there's no more Coffee Break until September. I was very grateful that she came early so that I could go to the last 3 weeks of Coffee Break.

I found out that there's not going to be an adult Summer reading program at my library this year. Our library has a new department head to replace Mary Lynn who was one of my favorite librarians (she retired this year). I hope that the new department head will not drop the LCDM club---50, 100, 500, 1ooo b00k club. I'm on my 2nd way through the club. And my mom said that the Oak Lawn Library is doing away with the paper slips that you fill out to put a book on hold; you have to do it by computer now. I bet that got alot of people in their 60's, 70's 80's and beyond that haven't took a computer class angry. Why the library couldn't take it in consideration to leave the paper slips for the Seniors? There will be lessons so that the Seniors can do it by computer. And I like Nancy who is another librarian, she handles the Interlibrary loans, meaning if your library does not have a copy of let's say War and Peace, you would fill out a hold slip, and she would get it for you at another library in the district. But Nancy was really great at getting me books that no other library in the district had. I'm wondering with the no hold slips policy now, can I get books out of district? She would get me hard to find P G Wodehouse books and other books from colleges, universities, and other libraries. Nancy is wonderful.

That's about it on myself; what have you all been doing?

Hi Judy,

There is nothing in particular to join Where is Tuesday? Just add a comment to my blog, or make a post on your own blog and tell the setting of the book you are reading.

http://www.echthroi.org/getliterate/herdingcats/
Here's the link for the Herding Cats challenge. Everyone nominates 5 books that they recommend, and then you can pick a book from the bog list to read.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the update. Does your church tape their services? Is there anyway they can send you a copy of the Sunday performances?

I wish I could sing period. Yes, I am sorry that you can not sing like you used to. I guess the tapes are not the same as being there. I see you are reading The Moonstone one day I will get to that one. I have it but I have other books I have to go through.
